LISA MALONE: Biography
b.1977 Ireland.

Lisa Malone studied at the University of Ulster, Belfast. Her practice embodies printmaking, sculpture and drawing, sometimes overlapping to form a resulting piece.

Malone is an artist that knows how to describe her world with a pure and simple line that wanders, twists and then hops quickly off into the horizon. She uses line intuitively and economically, swinging from quirky equivalents of movement and play, right down into the dark night of the soul.

The works reveal an intimate view of the world, and ask questions about our place in it. In her etchings, small anonymous figures negotiate a precarious existence, uncertain of their relationships and the harsh architecture they have created for themselves. They focus on unexplained, sometimes darkly comical narratives and put a spotlight on the twin struggles of tension/desire and conformity/alienation.

Alongside her own practice she has worked with the Golden Thread Gallery and Flaxart Studios on a number of participatory projects including Round the Bends’ a multi media project with Carrick Hill Community Centre, which was recently exhibited at the Golden Thread Gallery Project Space.
