Martin Boyle was born in Co.Donegal in 1982. He undertook the Flax Art Graduate Residency from October 2008 to September 2009. He completed his Masters of Fine Art in June 2008 at the University Of Ulster, Belfast. Boyle graduated with a BA Honours in Sculpture and Combined Media from the Limerick School of Art and Design. The artist was featured in Circa 125, Degree Show Critics Choice, p 64, Slavka Sverakova.
Martin Boyle produces work that is both playful and performative. He re-presents mass produced quirky objects and packaging in multiple forms to the viewer through video installation and sculptural pieces. His work highlights a preoccupation with ideas of value, or lack off, through his use of packaging and consumer goods.
Always preferring to understate his point, he creates a context where the viewer requires time in order to view the work. Through subtle manipulation or illusion he plays on our need for immediate gratification, with expectation to reveal, to unfold, to expose.
