CATEGORY A: Studio Member

With competition very fierce for a studio in Belfast, the vast majority of artists will remain in their space for a very long time. We have 18 permanent studio holders at Flax. Over the past 6 years only 5 artists have left Flax to free up studio space for new artists. Therefore in most cases we can only accommodate new artists on a sub-let basis for 1, 2 or 3 months at a time.

As at 1st April 2010, we currently have 4 artists on our waiting list and when a studio becomes available all applications are reviewed by the Board of Directors' sub-committee and the strongest candidate is awarded the vacant studio.

How to apply:

To apply for a permanent studio or sub-let, applicants should submit a cover letter, up-to-date CV and up to ten images of artwork.

CATEGORY B: Associate Member

For a fee of £60 a year, associate members can have access to a range of Flaxart facilities including:

• Industrial-scale workshop (woodworking equipment) Users are required to take out their own insurance. This facility is only available between 10am to 1pm Tuesdays to Thursdays, bookable in advance to flaxartstudios@gmail.com

• Access to basic IT, visual & sound editing facilities, including the editing software final cut studio 2 on the Flax iMac in the computer room. New Media equipment is bookable for 48 hours between Tuesdays and Thursdays. New Media equipment includes:

- Photography Studio Lights

- Mini DV Deck

- Lightmeter

- DVD player

• Broadband wireless internet access

• An artist page on Flaxart website with six images, biography/CV and external link.

Please note associate members are not provided with studios keys therefore the above facilities are only available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am-1pm during office hours.
