TONYA MCMULLAN
( Studio let: January - June 2012)
In an attempt to expand the role of artist, audience, curator, host and
performer Tonya McMullan uses her practice to promote new models of
participation for the viewer and participant to consider the confines
of our environment - using a broad range of media including video,
sculpture and performance.
McMullan’s practise explores the everyday trials, tribulations and struggles we all go through in our aspirations to achieve and our dealings with short comings. By playing with the subject matter/ audience and
materials the work reveals the friction between actual everyday life
and social expectations.
Tonya McMullan studied at Edinburgh College of Art and is currently based
in Belfast since 2009. Co director at Catalyst Arts since June 2010 and co founder of Belfast based artist collective PRIME.
